St Paul's Cathedral Sectional Dome Model

For over 300 years the dome of St Paul's Cathedral has defined the London skyline, rising above the city's rooftops as a symbol of resilience, beauty and architectural genius. Designed by Sir Christopher Wren and completed in 1710, it remains one of the greatest achievements in British architecture and one of the most studied domes in the world.

Wren drew inspiration from Michelangelo's dome at St Peter's Basilica in Rome and Mansart's Val-de-Grâce in Paris, yet what he created at St Paul's is uniquely British in character. Unlike its continental counterparts the dome conceals a remarkable hidden triple structure, an outer dome visible from the street, an inner dome visible from the cathedral floor, and a concealed brick cone between the two that carries the weight of the lantern above. Recessed columns in every fourth bay add rhythm and structural strength, while the two distinct masonry storeys together rise approximately 95 feet above a solid understated base. It is a triumph of both proportion and ingenuity.

This highly detailed sectional model is based on the famous isometric drawing by R. B. Brook-Greaves, faithfully illustrating the layered complexity of Wren's design and revealing the hidden internal structure that makes St Paul's dome so extraordinary. Produced in high detail resin by a professionally qualified conservation architect, every element is researched and resolved with the same rigour the building itself deserves.

Please note that the 1:250 scale version of the model ships in two parts to enable safe transit, with a discreet joint below the lantern that is very discrete once assembled.

Available in three scales to suit different display preferences:

1:500 scale, 161mm tall, 91mm wide (6.3" tall, 3.6" wide)

1:350 scale, 230mm tall, 130mm wide (9.1" tall, 5.1" wide)

1:250 scale, 304mm tall, 168mm wide (12.0" tall, 6.6" wide)
