Nelson's Column Trafalgar Square Model

On the 21st of October 1805, Admiral Horatio Nelson led the British fleet to one of the most decisive naval victories in history at the Battle of Trafalgar, breaking the combined French and Spanish fleet and ending Napoleon's ambitions of invasion. Nelson did not survive to see the victory. Shot by a French marksman aboard HMS Victory, he died knowing the battle was won. The column that bears his name, completed in 1843 to the design of William Railton and rising from the heart of Trafalgar Square, has stood ever since as London's most powerful monument to sacrifice, naval supremacy and national identity.

At its base four bronze relief panels cast from captured French cannons tell the story of Nelson's defining battles. The Battle of Cape St Vincent in 1797, where his bold boarding tactics confounded the Spanish fleet. The Battle of the Nile in 1798, a crushing victory that stranded Napoleon's forces in Egypt. The Battle of Copenhagen in 1801, where Nelson famously raised his telescope to his blind eye and ignored orders to withdraw. And the Death of Nelson at Trafalgar, his final moments aboard HMS Victory rendered in bronze for posterity.

This highly detailed scale model captures both the elegant simplicity of Railton's Corinthian column and the narrative richness of the relief panels at its base, resolved with the precision that this most storied of London monuments deserves. Produced in high detail resin by a professionally qualified conservation architect, every element is researched and resolved with genuine architectural and historical understanding.
